On March 5, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Baxtiyor Saidov, made a phone call to the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the MFA, the sides expressed serious concern during the telephone conversation regarding drone attacks launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information to his counterpart about the drone strikes. He emphasized that this attack against the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan constitutes a clear violation of the norms and principles of international law and serves to increase tensions in the region. The minister noted that the Azerbaijani side has demanded a prompt clarification and explanation from Iran regarding the incident, as well as the implementation of urgent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, holds strategic importance for the country's regional connectivity and security. This diplomatic outreach follows Azerbaijan's consistent policy of maintaining regional stability while firmly defending its sovereign borders and territorial integrity. Relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have seen significant strengthening in recent years, characterized by high-level strategic cooperation and mutual support within international organizations such as the Organization of Turkic States.
