The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that they will maintain their military presence within the established security zone in southern Lebanon.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, this strategic decision is aimed at ensuring the security of Israel's northern regions and neutralizing potential threats posed to military forces in the area.
The IDF stated that it will continue to conduct operations against identified threats beyond the immediate security zone, implementing necessary measures to protect both military personnel and civilians. The military emphasized that operational activities remain ongoing and warned that approaching the designated security zone poses significant risks.
Furthermore, the Israeli military has called for coordination with the Lebanese armed forces and strongly advised civilians to avoid entering the restricted area. The maritime security zone is considered an extension of the land-based buffer and is being expanded in accordance with operational requirements.
Future steps between Israel and Lebanon are currently being discussed within the framework of direct negotiations, with representatives from both sides expected to meet again next week. The establishment of such buffer zones has historically been a critical component of Israel's defense strategy along its northern border, intended to create a physical barrier against cross-border incursions and rocket fire from militant groups operating in the region.
