Iran has officially condemned recent threats directed at its nuclear facilities, labeling them a violation of international law.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei issued a statement addressing the situation. Baghaei strongly denounced what he described as ongoing attacks and threats from the United States against Iran's peaceful nuclear infrastructure. According to the spokesperson, Tehran views these actions as a direct breach of established international legal norms.
Furthermore, the Iranian official criticized the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the organization's silence regarding threats to nuclear facilities under its supervision. Baghaei emphasized that the international watchdog's failure to address such dangerous provocations is unacceptable and undermines global nuclear security protocols.
The IAEA, headquartered in Vienna, serves as the world's central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. It is tasked with verifying that nuclear programs remain peaceful. Tensions between Tehran and Washington regarding Iran's nuclear program have persisted for decades, with the IAEA often caught in the middle of diplomatic disputes over monitoring access and security guarantees for nuclear sites.
