Iraq has commenced the transportation of approximately 90,000 barrels of oil per day from the southern Basra province to the Garabagh-adjacent regions and northern Iraq for further delivery to Turkey's Ceyhan port via pipeline.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reported the development, citing TASS. Bassem Abdel Karim Nasser, Director General of the Basra Oil Company, stated that a specialized operation has been launched to pump the crude oil from Basra to the pumping stations of the North Oil Company in Kirkuk.

Nasser further noted that this strategic move is designed to facilitate the "rerouting of Iraqi oil exports along the northern corridor." According to the head of the Basra Oil Company, the total volume of crude oil to be transported from Iraq to the Turkish port of Ceyhan is expected to increase to 340,000 barrels per day.

The Ceyhan terminal is a critical hub for global energy markets, serving as a primary outlet for Iraqi and Azerbaijani oil to reach European and Mediterranean markets. This expansion of the northern export route is significant for regional energy security, as it diversifies Iraq's export capabilities beyond its southern Persian Gulf terminals. For Azerbaijan, the stability and capacity of the Ceyhan port remain vital, as it also serves as the terminus for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, a cornerstone of the region's energy infrastructure.
