Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezai has issued a series of provocative statements against the United States amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the MP referred to the U.S. as the "United States of Idiots" (USI) in a post shared on the social media platform X. Rezai's comments targeted the American leadership directly, stating, "With this president and that stupid defense secretary, we should say USI – United States of Idiots instead of USA."
He further asserted that the U.S. Navy, even with its entire fleet, would be unable to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian deputy also accused Washington of "behaving like a spoiled child." These remarks come as both Iranian and U.S. forces trade accusations over the violation of a month-long ceasefire that began in late February, following a period of heightened military readiness in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Tensions in the region have historically fluctuated, often involving naval standoffs and diplomatic friction between Tehran and Washington. In the current political landscape, US President Donald Trump has maintained a firm stance on maritime security in the Persian Gulf, emphasizing the protection of international shipping lanes against potential threats and ensuring the stability of global energy markets.
