Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, to discuss regional security developments.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that Araghchi briefed the Chinese side on the situation in Iran and the broader region following military operations involving the United States and Israel.
During the call, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that the actions taken by the US and Israel against Iran violated all norms and principles of international humanitarian law, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians. He emphasized that the Iranian Armed Forces remain determined to protect the country's national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of its citizens. Araghchi highlighted specific incidents involving civilian casualties, noting that 168 schoolgirls were killed at a primary school in the city of Mina, and reported that several hospitals had also been targeted.
Touching upon regional relations, the minister emphasized that Iran harbors no hostility toward the countries of the Persian Gulf and is committed to maintaining good-neighborly relations with them.
For his part, Wang Yi expressed support for Iran's right to defend its sovereignty, independence, and dignity, while once again condemning the illegal attacks carried out by the US and Israel.He added that any defensive measures taken by Iran against US military bases located in certain Persian Gulf nations should not be viewed as an attack on those countries, but rather as a legitimate response to the source and starting point of aggression.
This diplomatic engagement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where Iran and China have frequently sought to coordinate positions on regional stability. China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a major economic partner for Tehran, has consistently advocated for de-escalation in the region while criticizing unilateral military actions. The dialogue underscores the strategic partnership between the two nations as they navigate the complex geopolitical landscape involving US President Donald Trump's administration and regional security dynamics.
