Iran has proposed a temporary suspension of uranium enrichment during high-level negotiations with the United States held in Islamabad.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that The New York Times published this information, citing Iranian and US officials.

According to the publication, Tehran put forward a similar initiative during meetings held in Geneva in February. Following those discussions, US President Donald Trump authorized operations against Iran. In the latest round of talks in Pakistan, the US side countered by proposing a 20-year moratorium on Iran's uranium enrichment activities.

The report notes that the ongoing deliberations regarding the duration of the nuclear program's suspension suggest a potential for the parties to reach a formal agreement. White House officials stated that while no concrete agreement has been finalized yet, a new phase of negotiations is currently under consideration. Previously, Axios reported that Tehran had suggested an initiative to freeze uranium enrichment for a period of less than 10 years.

On April 11, delegations from Iran and the United States held several rounds of talks in Islamabad. The Iranian delegation was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while the US delegation was headed by Vice President J.D. Vance. Following the sessions, both sides indicated that a long-term resolution to the conflict remains elusive due to several persistent points of contention. The future prospects for dialogue between Tehran and Washington remain uncertain.

The nuclear standoff between the United States and Iran has been a focal point of global security for decades, centered on concerns regarding Tehran's nuclear ambitions and the international sanctions regime. These high-level meetings in neutral venues like Islamabad represent significant diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. Azerbaijan, maintaining a balanced foreign policy, closely monitors these regional developments as they directly impact the geopolitical stability and economic security of the South Caucasus and the broader Caspian region.
