Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had destroyed a US-operated maritime drone near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a report published by the IRGC's official news platform, Sepah News, the force's navy shot down an unmanned vessel identified as a Saildrone with hull number 5838.
The IRGC said in a statement that destroying the unmanned vessel had prevented what it described as an "aggressive mission."
Footage released in connection with the incident shows a US-owned sailing drone allegedly downed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. The footage was reportedly recorded on Sept. 11, 2026.
Meanwhile, the United States announced economic sanctions against Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Shiite armed group in Iraq.
The US State Department said in a statement that the measures target networks linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, which it said uses Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces and commercial networks in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye and Lebanon to finance terrorism and evade international sanctions.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is one of the world's most important energy transit routes, making security incidents in the area a matter of international concern.
