The Iranian parliament has introduced a new draft law concerning the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the document, titled "Strategic Measures for the Security and Sustainable Development of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf," has been formally submitted to the legislature.

This legislative initiative coincides with reports regarding the downing of a US-owned unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the region. Iranian officials have indicated that this move is part of a broader effort to strengthen their strategic positions in the area.

Ibrahim Azizi, a member of the Iranian parliament, stated that Tehran remains committed to defending its "red lines," particularly regarding the management and security of the Strait of Hormuz. The lawmaker noted that the current draft law represents only an initial phase, and further, more significant measures could be implemented in the future.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes through this narrow waterway, making it a focal point for geopolitical maneuvering and regional security concerns. Iran's latest legislative push underscores its intent to assert greater control over these strategic waters amidst ongoing regional instability.
