Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy for Legal and International Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has responded to the US decision to revoke the "sunset" provision regarding sanctions on Iran's oil sales.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Iranian official characterized Washington's move as a violation of international agreements. According to Gharibabadi, the decision by the US is directed against Tehran's national interests and economic sovereignty.

Gharibabadi stated that Iran will take necessary steps to protect its national interests and security. He emphasized that the US decision will not go unanswered and that Tehran reserves the right to implement appropriate countermeasures. A representative from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that legal and diplomatic response mechanisms are currently being developed in response to the increased pressure on the country's oil sector.

The US sanctions on Iran's oil sector have been a central point of contention in bilateral relations for years. These measures are part of a broader strategy of "maximum pressure" aimed at restricting Iran's revenue streams and influencing its regional policies. The "sunset" provisions, often included in international agreements, are designed to expire after a set period, but their revocation by the US administration signals a continued commitment to maintaining strict economic restrictions on the Iranian energy market.
