Official Tehran responds to US President Donald Trump's statement regarding the cancellation of death sentences

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has categorically denied reports suggesting that 800 individuals are scheduled for execution in the country. During a weekly press conference, the spokesperson addressed recent international claims, describing them as irresponsible and baseless.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that Baghaei emphasized the legal complexities involved in such judicial processes. "The adoption of judicial decisions requires a certain amount of time. A decision on such an important matter cannot be made in such a short period," the spokesperson stated.

The official response follows a statement by US President Donald Trump on January 16, where he posted on social media welcoming what he described as the Iranian leadership's decision to cancel more than 800 execution orders. Baghaei also clarified the status of foreign diplomatic missions in Tehran, noting that while some diplomats returned to their home countries due to concerns over internet disruptions and recent events, no embassies have officially ceased operations. The Tehran administration expressed hope that temporary departures would be resolved and normal working regimes would resume shortly.

The diplomatic exchange highlights the ongoing tension and scrutiny regarding human rights and judicial transparency in the region. Historically, international human rights organizations and global leaders have frequently monitored legal proceedings in Iran, often leading to conflicting reports between Western intelligence and Tehran's official statements. This latest clarification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves as an attempt to stabilize the narrative following high-level commentary from Washington.
