Iran is demanding compensation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accusing the Gulf nation of assisting US military strikes against Iranian territory.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Nournews, reports that Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, formally raised the issue in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
"The UAE's decision to allow its territory to be used for launching strikes is a violation of international law. States bear responsibility for such actions. The UAE must compensate Iran for the material and moral damages incurred," the letter stated. The Iranian envoy emphasized that providing logistical or territorial support for aggression against a sovereign state contradicts the principles of the UN Charter.
This diplomatic escalation comes amid heightened regional tensions involving the United States and various actors in the Middle East. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, Washington has maintained a firm stance on regional security, often utilizing strategic partnerships with Gulf nations to conduct operations. The UAE, a key regional ally of the US, hosts several military facilities that provide logistical support for international security missions, a point that has frequently been a source of friction with Tehran.
