President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the Hakarichay reservoir in the Lachin district on July 11.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Zaur Mikayilov, Chairman of the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan, briefed President Ilham Aliyev on the details of the project.
It was reported that the project involves the construction of a reservoir on the Hakari River, which originates within Azerbaijan's borders. The facility will have a total capacity of 100 million cubic meters, with a useful volume of 90 million cubic meters. Additionally, a main pipeline spanning nearly 172 kilometers, with a discharge capacity of 8 cubic meters per second, will be constructed.
This infrastructure is designed to provide approximately 700,000 people across the Lachin, Qubadli, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Khojavand, and Aghdam districts with high-quality drinking water at a rate of 2.5 cubic meters per second.
The project also includes the construction of three hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) along the main pipeline, with a combined capacity of 10.81 MW.
The Hakarichay reservoir is set to play a critical role not only in ensuring a stable supply of drinking water for the population but also in the efficient management of water resources in the liberated territories. It will further support the socio-economic development of the region and improve water supply systems for other major cities across Azerbaijan.
