Armenia has officially applied for the transit of its cargo to Russia through the territory of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev announced during a panel session at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
According to the information, the head of state made these remarks during the session titled "Defining the Economic Identity of Eurasia." President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan has already established the necessary infrastructure and opportunities for the transportation of goods from Russia and Kazakhstan through its territory. "Although these goods currently enter Armenia via Georgia, the day is not far off when Baku and Yerevan will begin direct cargo exchange," the President stated. He further added that official Baku has unilaterally declared its territory open for cargo destined for Armenia, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic relations for the successful conclusion of these processes.
The World Economic Forum in Davos serves as a critical global platform for discussing economic integration and geopolitical stability. For Azerbaijan, the opening of regional communications is a cornerstone of its post-conflict strategy following the 44-day Patriotic War. The development of transport corridors is intended to transform the South Caucasus into a primary logistics hub connecting East and West, specifically through the Middle Corridor initiative.
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, also speaking at the session, acknowledged the growing significance of the South Caucasus and the Middle Corridor in a changing global landscape. He noted that new routes would provide alternative opportunities not only for logistics but also for the transit of energy resources and digital connectivity.
