Armenia will become a transit country for the first time in its history, President Ilham Aliyev announced during the opening of the XIII Global Baku Forum in the capital.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state emphasized that work is underway to extend the Middle Corridor through Armenian territory following the establishment of peace. "This will allow the main part of Azerbaijan to be connected with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through sustainable transport, energy, and communication lines. As a result, Armenia will become a transit country for the first time in its independent history," President Ilham Aliyev stated.
The President further noted that this development represents a win-win situation for all parties interested in utilizing these new opportunities. He underlined that by connecting the two parts of Azerbaijan via transport infrastructure, the region is creating an expansion of international corridors that will benefit numerous countries across Eurasia.
The Global Baku Forum, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, has become a premier regional platform for discussing global challenges, security, and economic integration. The Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) is a key strategic initiative aimed at connecting China and the European Union through Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Turkiye, bypassing traditional northern routes. The integration of regional transport links is expected to significantly enhance Azerbaijan's role as a primary logistics hub in the South Caucasus.
