Hull City has secured promotion to the English Premier League after defeating Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Hull City, owned by Turkish media mogul Acun Ilicali, defeated their opponents 1-0 in the decisive match held at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
The only goal of the match was scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time (90+5), sealing a dramatic victory. With this result, Hull City returns to the top flight of English football after a 10-year absence.
In addition to the sporting achievement, the promotion guarantees a massive financial windfall for the club. According to British media reports, securing a place in the Premier League is expected to generate approximately 300 million euros in revenue for the club, making the play-off final one of the most lucrative fixtures in world sport.
Speaking before the match, club owner Acun Ilicali expressed his excitement and pride regarding the historic game: "I am very proud and very happy. I am experiencing several different emotions at the same time. But overall, I am proud of our team. We are one step away from a miracle."
Notably, Southampton, one of Hull City's potential rivals in the play-offs, had previously been disqualified from the tournament by the English Football League due to rules violations, following allegations of secretly filming other teams' training sessions.
