A container ship has been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, with reports indicating that Iranian military forces opened fire on the vessel.

The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), reported that the incident took place approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. According to the agency, the ship's captain claimed the attack was carried out by the Iranian Navy. The Iranian vessel reportedly approached the container ship and opened fire without attempting any prior radio communication. While the crew is safe and no fire or environmental impact was recorded, the merchant ship's bridge sustained significant damage.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important maritime passages, serving as a primary route for global oil and gas exports. Situated between Oman and Iran, the waterway links the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Security incidents in this region are closely monitored by international maritime authorities due to their potential impact on global trade stability and energy security.
