United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has sent a congratulatory letter to President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the message reads:
"Your Excellency,
I extend my warmest congratulations to you on the occasion of Independence Day.
National days are an important opportunity to reflect on the path countries have traveled, their contributions to the international community, and the aspirations that guide their future. At the same time, they remind us of the importance of dialogue and solidarity in addressing global challenges.
Today, the world faces urgent tests—ending wars and preventing new ones, combating the climate crisis, reducing inequalities, and responsibly guiding powerful technologies. Addressing these and other challenges requires a renewed commitment to cooperation and multilateral partnership in the name of ensuring peace and security, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, and protecting human rights.
I am pleased to once again convey my best wishes to the people of Azerbaijan on this momentous day.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration."
Azerbaijan celebrates its Independence Day annually, marking the restoration of its sovereignty and statehood. The United Nations and Azerbaijan have maintained a robust partnership since the country joined the organization in 1992, collaborating on various international initiatives, including climate change mitigation and regional security efforts.
