France has deployed two minesweepers, two frigates, and a patrol aircraft to the Middle East to ensure the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the deployment on the social media platform X.

Macron stated that French forces, in coordination with international partners, are prepared to ensure the full restoration of shipping and secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz. He further noted that the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran on June 17 serves to strengthen regional stability and reaffirms the freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.

The French President explained that the decision to maintain these forces in the region followed consultations with the Sultan of Oman. While the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" is returning to its home port in Toulon, the minesweepers, frigates, and patrol aircraft will remain in the region, ready to conduct missions with allies if necessary. Macron emphasized that France will continue to adjust its military presence based on evolving regional security needs.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Approximately 20% of the world's petroleum consumption passes through this narrow passage, making it a focal point for international naval security operations. France's decision to bolster its presence underscores the ongoing geopolitical sensitivity surrounding maritime trade routes in the Persian Gulf.
