Severe weather conditions and subsequent flooding in the Qakh, Zaqatala, and Balakən districts have caused significant damage to railway infrastructure along the Qakh–Balakən section.
According to information provided by Azerbaijan Railways CJSC to the Operative Information Center-OMM, train movements in the affected area have been restricted for safety reasons. Effective immediately and continuing until July 20, ticket sales for the Goragan, Aliabad, Zaqatala, Goyam, and Balakən stations have been temporarily suspended.
In accordance with safety protocols, Baku–Balakən trains will terminate at Qakh station between July 8 and July 20. Conversely, trains departing for Baku will commence their journey from Qakh station during this period. To ensure passenger connectivity, free shuttle buses will be provided to transport passengers between the affected stations and Qakh station.
The railway network in northern Azerbaijan is a critical component of the country's transport infrastructure, connecting the capital, Baku, with the mountainous regions near the Georgian border. These regions are prone to seasonal heavy rainfall, which occasionally impacts transport logistics, necessitating rapid response measures from state agencies to ensure public safety and service continuity.
