The European Union will continue to impose sanctions against Tehran in response to the actions of the Iranian government, according to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the High Representative emphasized the bloc's commitment to safeguarding its interests. "In response to the actions of the Iranian government, the EU has implemented large-scale sanctions. We will continue to protect the security and interests of the European Union, including through additional sanctions," Kallas noted.
The statement further clarifies that the EU calls on Iran to halt its nuclear program, limit its ballistic missile development, and refrain from activities that destabilize both the region and Europe. Furthermore, the Union urges an end to violence and repression against the Iranian people. Kallas added that the EU remains committed to diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and finding sustainable solutions to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The official position also includes a call for Iran to cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to prevent disruptions in key waterways, such as the Strait of Hormuz. These measures are part of a broader international effort to maintain maritime security and global energy stability. The European Union's restrictive measures typically target individuals and entities involved in proliferation-sensitive nuclear activities or those responsible for human rights violations, aligning with the bloc's integrated approach to foreign policy and regional security.
