The European Union (EU) has launched a new initiative aimed at accelerating recovery efforts in Gaza.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the European Commission announced the introduction of the "Gaza Team Initiative" during the second meeting of the Palestinian Donor Group held in Brussels.
The primary objective of the project is to provide rapid support for the restoration of destroyed infrastructure and essential services in Gaza. The program will focus on critical sectors, including the repair of water and sewage systems, the removal of debris and solid waste, the reactivation of healthcare services, as well as the restoration of energy, agriculture, and food supply chains.
The initiative was developed based on the "Gaza Interim Damage and Needs Assessment" report, which was published in April by the EU, the United Nations (UN), and the World Bank. This assessment highlights the severe humanitarian and infrastructural challenges currently facing the region.
According to the official statement, a total of 883.6 million euros has been mobilized to finance early recovery efforts under the "Gaza Team Initiative." Furthermore, new agreements regarding cooperation and financial contributions to the Palestinian leadership were signed to facilitate the delivery of aid.
The Palestinian Donor Group, which includes international partners and financial institutions, plays a crucial role in coordinating humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinian territories. This latest funding package represents a significant commitment by the international community to address the urgent needs of the population in Gaza and to lay the groundwork for long-term stability.
