A senior United Nations official has reported that obstacles are being created in the distribution process of humanitarian aid within the Gaza Strip.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the UN official has accused Hamas of being responsible for this situation. It was noted that these incidents further exacerbate the already dire conditions faced by the civilian population in the region.
Reports indicate that humanitarian operations were temporarily suspended following an incident on Saturday, during which armed individuals entered a food distribution center in northern Gaza and assaulted two drivers from the World Food Programme (WFP).
Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, stated that this incident is part of ongoing violence and pressure exerted against humanitarian activities. Alakbarov emphasized that such interference jeopardizes the safety of humanitarian workers and hinders the delivery of life-saving aid.
In response, Hamas has rejected the accusations. The group's media office claimed that the incident at the WFP center was not an obstruction of humanitarian activity, but rather a security measure concerning products allegedly smuggled within aid packages.
The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip. While negotiations regarding a ceasefire and the release of hostages remain ongoing, international humanitarian organizations continue to warn that the crisis in the region is deepening.
