Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, President Ilham Aliyev, to discuss recent regional security developments.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Press Service of the President of Azerbaijan released information regarding the call. During the conversation, the Turkish leader strongly condemned the drone attack carried out by Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and expressed his unwavering support for the brotherly people of Azerbaijan.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his deep gratitude to Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the phone call and for Turkey's principled stance on the matter. The two leaders reaffirmed the strategic alliance between Baku and Ankara, emphasizing that any threat to Azerbaijan's security is met with solidarity from Turkey.

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, holds significant strategic importance in the South Caucasus. Under the Shusha Declaration signed in 2021, Azerbaijan and Turkey have formalized a military and political alliance, pledging mutual assistance in the event of threats or acts of aggression by third states against the independence or territorial integrity of either party.
