Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation with Fuad Hussein, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) told Operative Information Center-OMM that during the call, the ministers exchanged views on the observed military escalation and the tense security environment in the region. Both sides emphasized the necessity for all parties to exercise restraint, avoid steps that could further escalate tensions, and prioritize diplomatic channels for the resolution of existing disputes.
The ministers further noted the importance of coordinated efforts by the international community, underscoring that the protection of civilian populations and critical infrastructure remains a priority issue. Other matters of mutual interest were also discussed during the conversation.
This diplomatic engagement comes at a time of heightened regional instability, where Azerbaijan continues to advocate for peace and stability based on the principles of international law. Azerbaijan maintains active bilateral relations with Iraq, focusing on cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, while supporting efforts to ensure regional security and counter-terrorism.
