Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand have held a telephone conversation to discuss regional security and humanitarian cooperation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Operative Information Center-OMM that during the call, both parties expressed deep concern over the military escalation and increasing security risks observed in the region. The ministers emphasized the importance of preventing further tension, increasing diplomatic efforts, and respecting the norms and principles of international law within this framework.
Minister Anita Anand expressed her gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the conditions created for the transit of Canadian citizens from Iran through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the military escalation in June last year. It was noted that the operative and humanitarian support provided during that period was highly appreciated. Given the current security environment, the ministers exchanged views on potential prospects for using the Azerbaijani border for the evacuation of Canadian citizens from Iran should the need arise.
Azerbaijan has frequently served as a strategic transit hub for international humanitarian missions and evacuations due to its unique geographical position between Europe and Asia. As a key player in regional diplomacy, Baku maintains a policy of supporting international stability and providing logistical assistance during humanitarian crises, reinforcing its role as a reliable partner in global security efforts.
