Income levels should not serve as a barrier to accessing adequate housing, according to European Union Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jorgensen.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Commissioner made these remarks in a video address to the dialogue session titled "Global Housing Crisis: What is the Plan?" held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
"The European Union has a role to play in resolving this crisis. We can change the tide in a positive direction. We are working to implement a plan to ensure housing for everyone. We are focusing on quality housing because people's lives matter. Furthermore, we must build strong communities. Students and homeless individuals are those suffering most from this crisis. We can solve this crisis together and achieve changes because the housing problem must be addressed globally," Jorgensen stated.
The World Urban Forum (WUF), established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. WUF13 serves as a critical platform for international leaders, policymakers, and urban planners to address the rapid challenges of urban growth, including the rising cost of living and the global shortage of affordable housing. The European Union's participation underscores its commitment to the European Affordable Housing Plan, which aims to mobilize investment and provide technical support to member states to improve living standards across the continent.
