Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov has discussed the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process during negotiations with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Jeyhun Bayramov announced this during a joint press conference with Lavrov in Moscow on July 17, following the conclusion of bilateral talks.

"Today, we discussed current issues on the international and regional agenda, with a particular focus on the situation in the South Caucasus. The 44-day Patriotic War of the Azerbaijani people created new realities and a new security format in the South Caucasus. This security format is based on the supremacy of international law. I would like to emphasize the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders," Jeyhun Bayramov stated.

According to the minister, recent historical developments in the context of normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the initialing of the peace treaty draft, create a unique opportunity for establishing long-term peace, security, and prosperity in the region.

"During the discussion, I informed Sergey Lavrov about the progress of restoration work in the liberated territories and the return of former internally displaced persons to these areas. It can be confidently said that de facto peace exists today in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The positive initiatives we have implemented, along with the peace proposals from the Azerbaijani side, including confidence-building measures, have significantly accelerated the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and made a major positive contribution to it. We are confident that fulfilling the remaining tasks of the peace process will create the necessary conditions for normalization," the Foreign Minister emphasized.

The normalization process between Baku and Yerevan remains a critical priority for the South Caucasus, following the end of the conflict in 2020. Azerbaijan continues to advocate for a legally binding peace treaty based on the mutual recognition of territorial integrity, which is seen as the cornerstone for regional stability and the opening of transport communications.
