A new temporary ceasefire has come into effect around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this development was confirmed in an official statement released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The ceasefire, brokered through the mediation of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, became effective on June 5. This marks the sixth temporary ceasefire declared around the facility since late 2025.
The primary objective of the ceasefire is to create a secure environment for the repair of critical power lines, which are essential for preventing a potential nuclear accident. IAEA officials emphasized that maintaining the integrity of these power connections is vital for the plant's safety systems.
In the statement, Rafael Grossi reiterated the agency's commitment to nuclear safety. "The IAEA will continue to utilize all available resources to protect people and the environment from the consequences of a possible nuclear accident," Grossi stated.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, near the city of Enerhodar. The plant has been under Russian control since October 2022. Power generation at the facility was halted in September 2022, and since April 2024, all reactor units have been maintained in a cold shutdown state to ensure safety.
