Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, who has been in detention since 2023, has been transferred from Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi to the Shifa International Hospital in the capital, Islamabad, following a High Court ruling.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, stringent security measures were implemented during the politician's transfer. The convoy was escorted by numerous police vehicles, and extensive police forces were deployed around the hospital perimeter.

As part of the heightened security protocol, vehicles parked along the route were cleared from the area.

The decision to transfer Khan to the hospital followed appeals from his legal team and a report submitted to the court by prison authorities regarding his health condition. On August 10, an examination by a cardiology board revealed significant fluctuations in the former Prime Minister's blood pressure. Furthermore, reports indicated that limited communication with his family has contributed to psychological stress and anxiety.

Taking this information into account, the court ordered that Imran Khan be moved to a private hospital for a two-day period to receive necessary medical attention.

Imran Khan and his PTI party maintain that the charges brought against him and the subsequent imprisonment are politically motivated. The former Prime Minister, who was removed from office following a vote of no confidence in April 2022, has faced numerous legal proceedings since his ousting.

Pakistan, a nuclear-armed nation of over 240 million people, has experienced significant political volatility in recent years. The legal challenges facing Imran Khan are widely viewed by international observers as a pivotal chapter in the country's complex political landscape, reflecting ongoing tensions between the judiciary, the political establishment, and the former leader's support base.
