Iran remains in a state of war amid ongoing threats from the United States and Israel, as well as violations of the ceasefire regime, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. Speaking at a press conference regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei emphasized that the current regional instability is a direct consequence of external military pressures.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Tasnim, Baghaei stated that the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz must be evaluated through the lens of its underlying causes. He noted that prior to military actions by the US and Israel against Iran, there were no significant issues in the waterway. Baghaei pointed to the policies of the administration of US President Donald Trump as a primary factor in the current tensions. "We are still in a state of war. Although a ceasefire was formally declared, it has unfortunately been repeatedly violated by the US side," Baghaei said, adding that statements suggesting Iranian ports and vessels could be targeted by the US have further complicated the environment.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically vital maritime chokepoints, serving as the primary transit route for approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption. Baghaei explained that under current conditions, unilateral free shipping is unfeasible, as shipping companies, cargo owners, and insurance entities are reluctant to operate in the region due to heightened risks. He stressed that Iran, as a coastal state, continues to take necessary measures to manage the situation and called for the development of clear protocols to ensure safe passage in the future.

These developments occur against a backdrop of increased geopolitical friction in the Middle East. Azerbaijan, which maintains a balanced foreign policy and prioritizes regional stability, has consistently advocated for the peaceful resolution of disputes and the protection of international shipping lanes in accordance with the principles of international law.
