Baku has upgraded the bus fleet serving two key suburban routes: the number 161 line, which connects the Hovsan and Surakhani settlements, and the number 162 line, linking the Ramana residential complex to the Koroglu Transport Exchange Center (NMM).
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, which cites the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the updated service officially commenced operations on June 1.
The new fleet deployment includes 10 buses for route 161 and 9 buses for route 162, both operating with a frequency of 9-10 minutes to ensure efficient passenger transit. All vehicles are equipped for cashless payment systems, aligning with the broader modernization efforts of public transport in the capital.
The modernization of these routes is part of the ongoing strategic initiative by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport to enhance the quality and accessibility of public transportation in Azerbaijan. By replacing aging vehicles with modern, high-capacity buses, the government aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve environmental standards, and provide more reliable commuting options for residents living in Baku's rapidly expanding suburban districts.
