The Azerbaijan Terrestrial Transport Agency (AYNA) has announced plans to integrate two major pedestrian zones in Baku—Ataturk and Antena parks—into a single, optimized public space. The project, which focuses on the Azadlig Avenue area in the Binagadi district, aims to streamline urban mobility and expand green corridors in the capital.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the proposal has been reviewed and approved by the Transport Coordination Council. AYNA stated that construction will soon commence near the northern exit of the Ganjlik metro station. "The project aims to transform this area, which has historically faced pedestrian obstacles and unregulated parking, into a comfortable urban environment," the agency noted. The redevelopment will include new greenery, benches, gazebos, and playgrounds, establishing a seamless link between the parks, public transport hubs, and commercial facilities.
This initiative is part of a broader urban development strategy in Azerbaijan to modernize the capital's infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents. In recent years, Baku has seen significant investment in the expansion of pedestrian-only zones and the renovation of public squares to reduce traffic congestion and promote environmental sustainability. By connecting these two prominent parks, the city authorities aim to create a safer and more attractive environment for both local citizens and tourists visiting the capital.
