A driver identified as Ceyhun Gurbanov has been detained in the Nasimi district of Baku for operating a Chevrolet vehicle while under the influence of narcotics, creating a significant hazard to other road users and defying lawful police orders.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Gurbanov was stopped after his erratic driving behavior raised suspicions among law enforcement officers. He was subsequently escorted to a medical examination, which confirmed the presence of psychotropic substances in his system. Following the results, an administrative protocol was filed and submitted to the court for legal action.
By court order, Gurbanov has been sentenced to 20 days of administrative detention and has been stripped of his right to operate motor vehicles for a period of one year. The State Road Police Department of the Nasimi District Police Department emphasized that proactive measures and regular inspections are being continued across the capital to ensure public safety and strictly enforce traffic regulations in Azerbaijan.
In recent years, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan has intensified its crackdown on drug-related traffic offenses as part of a broader national strategy to improve road safety. These measures include increased patrols and the utilization of modern diagnostic equipment to identify impaired drivers, aiming to reduce the number of traffic accidents caused by substance abuse in Baku and other major cities.
