No casualties or injuries were reported following a technical incident in the Baku metro today.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Bakhtiyar Mammadov, the spokesperson for Baku Metro, made the statement during a press briefing regarding the technical failure and subsequent passenger evacuation.

“The health and safety of our passengers is the priority for Baku Metro. In accordance with our regulatory requirements, immediate measures were taken to manage the situation,” Mammadov stated. He noted that at the time of the incident, there were 30 trains on the lines, four of which were inside tunnels. All passengers from those trains were successfully evacuated in the shortest possible time according to established safety norms.

The spokesperson further clarified that no complaints or medical appeals were received from passengers. Power was restored to the metro lines at approximately 14:00, followed by a period of technical testing and regulation. By 15:30, the Baku metro resumed full operations and is currently functioning according to its normal schedule. Mammadov emphasized that a transparent investigation into the cause of the incident is underway to prevent future occurrences.

The Baku Metro, which first opened in 1967, is the backbone of public transportation in the capital of Azerbaijan. Serving as a vital link for the city's residents, the system currently operates three lines with over 27 stations. This incident highlights the importance of the ongoing modernization and safety protocols implemented by the government to maintain the reliability of the capital's underground transit network.
