Azerbaijan and Ecuador have signed an agreement to mutually exempt holders of diplomatic, official, and service passports from visa requirements. The signing ceremony took place during the official visit of Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov to Ecuador.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the agreement aims to facilitate official travel and strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations. Under the new regulations, individuals holding the specified categories of passports will be able to enter, exit, and transit through the respective territories without the need for a visa for a predetermined period, streamlining diplomatic communication and intergovernmental cooperation.
This move is part of Azerbaijan's broader foreign policy strategy to expand its diplomatic footprint in Latin America and diversify its international partnerships. In recent years, Baku has actively sought to enhance political and economic cooperation with South American nations, establishing several diplomatic missions and signing various intergovernmental agreements. Ecuador and Azerbaijan share mutual interests in international cooperation within frameworks such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, and this agreement is expected to foster closer ties in the energy and trade sectors.
