Unfavorable weather conditions, characterized by heavy precipitation and strong winds, continue across Azerbaijan. According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, as of 09:00 on February 4, snow has been recorded in Kalbajar, Lachin, Qubadli, Shusha, Khankendi, Khojaly, Lerik, Quba, and the Saribash area of Qakh, while rain persists in most other regions of the country.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a strong north-westerly wind is currently blowing across the Republic. Wind speeds have reached 28 m/s in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, 23 m/s in Goranboy, 21 m/s in Barda and Naftalan, and 20 m/s in Ganja. In the Caspian Sea, wave heights have reached 3.8 meters, creating challenging conditions for maritime activities. Additionally, thick fog has limited visibility to 300 meters in areas such as Dashkasan, Ismayilli, Shamakhi, Gobustan, Quba, Qusar, Gryz, Shahdag, Goychay, Lerik, Astara, and Sabirabad.
Azerbaijan’s National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors such shifts in weather patterns, which are common during the winter months when cold air masses move across the Caucasus region. The service has advised drivers and other road users to exercise extreme caution, particularly on mountain passes and coastal areas, due to the risk of slippery roads and significantly reduced visibility. Such weather events often lead to temporary restrictions in maritime transport and require heightened readiness from emergency services to ensure public safety.
