US President Donald Trump has brought an end to a bloody and deadly conflict that lasted for more than 30 years, President Ilham Aliyev said.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during the presentation ceremony of the "Zayed Award for Human Fraternity" held in Abu Dhabi. The head of state emphasized that the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia carries significant weight not only for the two nations but for the broader region as a whole.
“I would like to thank all my colleagues who sent kind messages to the ceremony and once again emphasize the importance of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We were in a state of war for over 30 years. Now, we have been living in peace for six months. As I have said many times, we are learning. I can tell you that learning to live in peace is a special feeling. Since our independence, we have never lived in peace, and we are learning quickly,” the President stated.
President Ilham Aliyev specifically noted the diplomatic progress following the Washington summit. “The last six months since the historic summit in Washington hosted by US President Donald Trump have been months of partnership, cooperation, and movement toward long-term and eternal peace. I also want to express my gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his contribution to peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He hosted a trilateral summit on August 8, 2025, where the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan was initialed and a joint declaration was signed. President Trump signed it as a witness, thus ending a bloody, deadly conflict that lasted more than 30 years,” the head of state added.
The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an international prize established to recognize individuals and entities making profound contributions to human coexistence. The recent diplomatic breakthrough mediated by the United States marks a turning point in South Caucasus politics, focusing on the restoration of regional transport links and the formal recognition of territorial integrity. Following the liberation of its territories, Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for a peace agenda based on international law to ensure stability in Garabagh and surrounding areas.
