Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have signed a new protocol aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide range of strategic sectors, including economy, trade, energy, transport, agriculture, food security, environmental protection, and water infrastructure.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, via his official social media account on X.
During his business visit to Turkmenistan, Minister Jabbarov participated in the 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission alongside the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and co-chair of the commission, Nokerquly Atagulyev.
"We emphasized the initiative to establish a bilateral Business Council to expand economic cooperation and diversify export routes between our countries. At the conclusion of the meeting, we signed a protocol envisioning the strengthening of partnerships in priority areas such as economy, trade, energy, transport, agriculture, food security, environmental protection, and water infrastructure," the minister stated.
This agreement marks a significant step in deepening the strategic ties between Baku and Ashgabat. Both nations, located on the Caspian Sea, play a pivotal role in regional connectivity, particularly through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), which links Central Asian markets to Europe via the South Caucasus.
