Azerbaijan is working to ensure that housing finance remains accessible and sustainable for its citizens, according to First Deputy Minister of Finance Anar Karimov. Speaking at the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13), Karimov emphasized the importance of evolving mortgage conditions and state support mechanisms to meet growing demand.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the deputy minister made these remarks during a panel discussion titled "A New Deal for Housing Finance." Karimov noted that housing policy extends beyond mere construction, stating, "We are not only shaping the future; the future is also shaping us. By 2030, approximately 30 percent of the global population will require adequate housing provision," the deputy minister added.
The World Urban Forum (WUF), established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. The 13th session focuses on addressing the challenges of rapid urban growth and the necessity of inclusive financial frameworks. Azerbaijan has been actively participating in such international platforms to align its national housing strategies with global sustainable development goals, particularly in the context of urbanizing its territories and ensuring social welfare across the country.
