Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan has expressed his readiness to visit Azerbaijan, provided there is a suitable reason and an official invitation. Speaking to journalists, Simonyan noted that he would not hesitate to travel to Baku if such an invitation were extended.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, reports that the speaker also extended a reciprocal invitation to Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan, to visit Armenia. Simonyan emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy could play a role in the broader regional dialogue.
The statement comes at a time when Azerbaijan and Armenia are engaged in ongoing negotiations to finalize a peace treaty and achieve the delimitation of state borders. Following the full restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over the Garabagh region, diplomatic efforts have shifted toward normalizing bilateral relations and unblocking regional transportation routes. High-level meetings between officials are frequently facilitated by international mediators to ensure long-term stability in the South Caucasus.
