Beijing calls for adherence to international law following US President Donald Trump's tariff threats against European nations

China has reiterated its position regarding the Greenland issue, calling on the United States to stop using the so-called "China threat" as a pretext for its actions.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these remarks were made by Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The diplomat emphasized that international law, based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, serves as the foundation of the current international order and must be strictly observed.

The spokesperson made this statement in response to inquiries regarding US President Donald Trump's recent announcement to impose a 10 percent tariff on all goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland, effective February 1. US President Donald Trump previously indicated that if an agreement for the United States to acquire the island is not reached, these tariffs will increase to 25 percent starting June 1.

The Arctic region has recently become a focal point of geopolitical competition due to its strategic location and untapped natural resources. Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, holds significant importance for global maritime routes and mineral security. China's involvement in the region has primarily focused on scientific research and economic investment, though these activities have frequently been scrutinized by Washington as part of a broader strategic rivalry in the polar regions.
