The United States Embassy in Azerbaijan has issued an official statement to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the embassy shared the message via its official social media channels to express solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan.

"Today, we join the people of Azerbaijan in honoring the memory of those who perished in Khojaly in 1992. On behalf of the US embassy, we offer our sincerest and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. As we remember those who lost their lives, we reaffirm the importance of protecting human dignity, showing compassion, and building lasting peace for the sake of future generations," the statement read.

The Khojaly genocide, which took place on February 26, 1992, remains one of the most tragic chapters in the history of the Garabagh conflict. During the attack on the town of Khojaly, hundreds of Azerbaijani civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, were killed by Armenian forces. The international community and various legislative bodies around the world have increasingly recognized the events as a massacre and a crime against humanity, while Azerbaijan continues its efforts to seek international legal recognition of the tragedy as an act of genocide.
