The Baku Metro will operate in an enhanced mode on January 20 in connection with the National Day of Mourning, according to official reports.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Baku Metro CJSC, reports that special control measures will be implemented at the "20 Yanvar" station, as well as the "Icherisheher" and "Elmlar Akademiyasi" stations located near the Alley of Martyrs. The train schedule will be adjusted, and reserve trains will be kept ready to be deployed to the lines if necessary.
At 12:00, the movement of all trains across all metro stations will be halted for one minute to observe a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. This annual observance marks the anniversary of the 1990 tragedy when Soviet troops entered Baku to suppress the national independence movement, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. The day is observed as a symbol of national unity and the struggle for sovereignty in Azerbaijan.
