British rapper Yung Filly will face a retrial in Australia next June after a jury failed to reach verdicts on three rape charges, according to PA Media.
Perth’s District Court on Friday set June 15 as the start date for the retrial, which is expected to last eight days.
Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was acquitted in July of three counts of rape, one count of assault and one count of strangulation. The jury found him guilty of two other assault charges but was unable to reach decisions on three additional rape charges.
Allegations made after 2024 concert
A woman, who was 20 at the time, alleges that Barrientos repeatedly raped and assaulted her in his hotel room in Perth, Western Australia, after a concert in 2024.
The court previously heard that the pair had consensual sex before the woman alleged that the encounter became violent and that Barrientos refused to stop.
Barrientos was not required to attend Friday’s hearing. He is understood to have returned to the United Kingdom after being granted permission to leave Australia under his bail conditions.
Sentencing to follow retrial
Sentencing for the two assault charges on which Barrientos was convicted will take place after the retrial.
Born in Colombia and raised in the UK, Barrientos is known for his work with the YouTube collective “Beta Squad”. He has also appeared on Channel 4’s celebrity edition of “Bake Off” and presented programmes on “BBC Three”.
