US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States has granted a one-week diplomatic pause to Tehran to facilitate the funeral proceedings for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, President Trump made these remarks during his address at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on July 4, in celebration of US Independence Day.
"They are eager to reach an agreement. They are striving with all their might to achieve a deal. We have given them a one-week pause in connection with the funeral ceremonies," the US President stated.
The funeral proceedings for the late Supreme Leader, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, commenced yesterday morning. In addition to ceremonies within Iran, memorial services are scheduled to take place in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala. The body of the late religious leader is expected to be transported to Iraq on July 8. Following the conclusion of these ceremonies, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will be laid to rest in the city of Mashhad on July 9, in accordance with his final wishes.
The passing of a Supreme Leader in Iran marks a significant geopolitical moment, as the country navigates the transition of its highest religious and political authority. Such events often draw international attention due to the complexities of Iran's regional influence and its ongoing diplomatic engagements with global powers, including the United States.
