İranda su böhranı: Tehran və Məşhəddə vəziyyət gərginləşir

Major cities in Iran, including Tehran and Mashhad, continue to face severe water shortages despite recent rainfall across the region.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that local officials have expressed grave concerns regarding the sustainability of current water supplies. While recent precipitation has provided marginal relief in specific areas, the broader water scarcity problem remains a critical challenge for many parts of the country.

According to experts, Iran is experiencing a profound crisis driven by long-term drought and the rapid depletion of water resources. In the capital, Tehran, reservoir levels have plummeted to critical thresholds. The situation is even more dire in Mashhad, where officials report that water reserves in the dams supplying the city have dropped below 3 percent in some instances.

Authorities emphasize that rainfall alone is insufficient to normalize the water supply. They stress the urgent need for long-term management strategies alongside a significant reduction in public consumption. Experts warn that if current trends persist, the water shortage will deepen in the coming months, likely necessitating strict rationing and further usage restrictions.

Iran has historically struggled with water management due to its arid climate and increasing agricultural demands. The current crisis is part of a multi-year trend of declining groundwater levels and shrinking surface water bodies, which has previously sparked social and economic concerns in the region. International environmental observers note that such systemic water stress in the Middle East requires comprehensive infrastructure investment and climate adaptation measures to prevent long-term ecological damage.
