The State Security Service (SSS) has released a statement regarding the prevention of provocative activities directed against the security and national interests of Azerbaijan by foreign intelligence services. According to the report, as a result of comprehensive measures, Azerbaijani citizens Ramiz Mehdiyev, Abbas Abbasov, Ali Kerimli, and others have been detained as suspects in actions aimed at the forced seizure of power and changing the state's constitutional order.
Speaking to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly), stated that the preservation of stability in Azerbaijan is in firm hands and that the secret activities of the betrayal network, often referred to as the "fifth column," will not go unpunished.
Commenting on the statement issued by the State Security Service, the MP noted that Ramiz Mehdiyev, who executed instructions from abroad, along with his associates Ali Kerimli and their group, have already been exposed and are now answering before the investigation.
Vugar Bayramov recalled that the purpose of the anti-national "councils" created on the eve of the 2013 presidential elections was to drag Azerbaijan back into anarchy and realize a special plan by Ramiz Mehdiyev that remained incomplete in 2003. However, the strong Azerbaijani government and the unity between the people and the authorities prevented those plans from being realized.
The deputy emphasized that Azerbaijan is a strong state with its territorial integrity and sovereignty fully restored, and that control over socio-political stability in the country is robust. Any insidious intentions of internal or external anti-Azerbaijan forces will be resolutely prevented.
The State Security Service of Azerbaijan is the primary domestic intelligence and counter-intelligence agency, responsible for protecting the constitutional order and national security. In recent years, Azerbaijan has significantly strengthened its security apparatus following the full restoration of its sovereignty over Garabagh, focusing on neutralizing foreign-backed attempts to destabilize the internal political environment.
