Venezuela must refuse to base its national policy on foreign principles, according to the country's leadership.

Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez made these remarks in a statement to journalists, Operative Information Center-OMM reports citing "Ultimas Noticias." Rodriguez emphasized that the era of following directives from Washington has come to an end, asserting the need for independent governance.

"It is Venezuelan policy that must resolve our differences and internal conflicts," Rodriguez stated. She further highlighted that only national unity can guarantee the country's sovereignty, adding that while Venezuela seeks independence from foreign interference, it does not shy away from resolving existing disagreements with the United States through diplomatic dialogue.

The relationship between Caracas and Washington has been characterized by years of diplomatic tension and economic sanctions. Venezuela has consistently sought to pivot toward a multipolar foreign policy, strengthening ties with regional partners and global powers outside the Western sphere. This latest call for national sovereignty aligns with the Venezuelan government's long-standing position of resisting external political pressure while maintaining a stated openness to bilateral discussions on the basis of mutual respect.
