Türkiye's Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, has issued a statement regarding the damage caused to residential areas by the ongoing forest fires in the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the minister emphasized in a social media post that the state remains committed to supporting citizens affected by the disaster.
Minister Kurum stated that damage assessment operations have commenced in areas where the fires have been brought under control. Preliminary estimates indicate that a total of 65 independent units have been severely damaged or rendered completely unusable across the provinces of Antalya, Mugla, and Balikesir.
The minister specified that of the damaged structures, 20 are located in the Kumluca district, 39 in Seydikemer, and 6 in the Gomec district. Minister Kurum urged citizens to remain calm, assuring them that the state will take all necessary measures to meet the needs of those affected.
Forest fires in Türkiye are a recurring seasonal challenge, often exacerbated by high temperatures and strong winds during the summer months. The Turkish government typically mobilizes rapid response teams, including the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), to coordinate firefighting efforts, provide humanitarian aid, and initiate reconstruction projects for affected communities.
